The author, V. R. Krishna Iyer, has had a brilliant and varied career, during which he has been a state minister in Kerala and was also appointed a high court judge there later. A national assignment brought him to Delhi in 1971 as a member of the Law Commission. In 1973 he was elevated to the Supreme Court. A widely travelled man who has written profusely on law and cultural affairs, among his other books are Law and the People and Law, Freedom and Change.
